PLAN’s service coordinators, trust-administration staff, and executive leadership have extensive experience working with, and on behalf of, disabled individuals and elders with limitations. Our team brings significant passion, knowledge, and commitment to ensuring that beneficiaries who may be physically disabled and/or developmentally disabled are able to protect their assets appropriately and legally. We also ensure our clients have access to the income, public services, and social support services they need throughout the life of the trust. In essence, we serve as financial planners and estate planners for people who have special needs or those who want to make sure their loved ones with special needs or a disability will always have access to what they need to thrive.
Indeed, PLAN is unique in having a veteran team of social-work trained Service Coordinators who support and advise our beneficiaries on a continuing basis.
Joan McGrath, Executive Director: Joan has more than 25 years of experience in professional accounting and finance and has been with PLAN of MA & RI since 2009. Prior to assuming the role of Executive Director, Joan was the Director of Finance at PLAN. She has been an auditor with a “big four” public accounting firm, where she focused on high growth and emerging business clients from start-up to IPO. She also led her own private consulting practice where she worked with nonprofits, service organizations, and venture capital startups. Joan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.
Kathy Vitello, LSW, Director of Operations: Kathy is a Licensed Social Worker with more than 35 years of experience working with seniors, people who are physically challenged, and chronically ill. She has broad experience and insight—drawn from her work in hospitals, in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and psychiatric facilities, and in-home care and hospice settings. Kathy holds a degree in Mental Health from Northern Essex Community College; has a BA in Applied Mental Health from University of Massachusetts, Amherst; and earned certificates in Suicide Prevention in Older Adults and Mental Health and Aging from the Institute for Geriatric Social Work at Boston University. Kathy has also participated in a week-long training in Thanatology and is a member of the NPA Conference Planning Committee.
Clare F. Keating, CPA, Controller: Clare worked for Keating Brokerage since it began in 2010. A licensed real estate agent and certified public accountant, Clare worked for the brokerage firm as controller. She has more than 30 years of accounting, tax and audit experience in both private and public accounting. Clare is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. A graduate of Northeastern University, Clare received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting. Clare is the Treasurer of her town’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) and a Town Meeting Member.
Sean Smith, LSW, Service Coordinator: Sean is a Licensed Social Worker Associate who has been working in the field for the past four and a half years. Sean has worked in residential care for children with mental health and behavioral issues. He has also done intensive in-home work with families in crisis through the Department of Children and Families. Sean has served as an ongoing social worker for the Department of Children and Families where he provided to case management to families and children. Sean graduated with his Bachelor’s in Psychology from Worcester State University.
Carrie Mack, LSW, Service Coordinator: Carrie is a licensed social worker who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work that she obtained at Our Lady of the Elms College. Carrie has served as a Social Worker for the MA Department of Children and Families, where she provided comprehensive assessment and evaluation as well as ongoing case management. Her past experiences also includes working as a Case Manager in Family Support Services where she assisted with family advocacy needs, and as a Crisis Counselor where she provided front-line response to individuals of all ages experiencing mental and/or behavioral health crisis. She also has over 15 years of experience as an administrator working in adult education, career training, advising, and counseling.
Sarah Pritchett, LSW, Service Coordinator: Sarah is a licensed social worker in Massachusetts. She has worked in the human services field for over 8 years in various capacities. After completing her BA in Communications from Gordon College, she joined the Peace Corps and served in Mongolia teaching English to children and adults in rural villages. She has managerial experience in the shelter systems and has worked with the Department of Children and Families on case management and collaborating with foster care agencies. She has also worked as an aid at an assisted living and memory care facility.
Susan Angelakis, LICSW, Service Coordinator: Susan has been a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker for over 20 years. Susan’s experience includes providing casework services to older adults and their families, through various community Home Care and Elder Services agencies. Susan has also worked with Residents of skilled nursing facilities, receiving short term rehabilitation and Long-Term Care services. Susan received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UMass- Lowell, and a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Salem.
Jean Brisson, LSW, Service Coordinator: Jean is a licensed social worker with more than 30 years of experience working in the public sector. Jean has worked as a consultant for PLAN since 2014 within the Western Massachusetts Region, in which she served elders with disabilities and adults with chronic mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities and physical limitations. Jean is an Adult Foster Care Provider and is certified in ‘Caring for the Alzheimer’s Patient.’ She previously worked as a Case Manager and Residential Director through the Massachusetts Department of Disability Services. Jean has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in Public Health Advocacy. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
Ellen Harnen, LICSW, CBIS, Service Coordinator Supervisor: Ellen is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years of experience working with adults with disabilities; their families and caregivers. She has experience working with individuals in various clinical and residential settings. Ellen has worked extensively as a case manager providing services to adults living with a neurological injury and/or illness. She has worked with veterans with disabilities, their families, and caregivers, through the provision of case management support and advocacy. Ellen earned a Master of Social Work degree from Simmons College in Boston. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and a member of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
Diomaris Nieves Lopez, LSW, Service Coordinator. Diomaris is a Licensed Social Worker, fluent in the Spanish language. Diomaris graduated from Suffolk University with a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree in Sociology, with a concentration in Criminal Justice and a minor in Spanish. She has experience working with individuals ranging from children to the elderly. She served as a Social Worker for children and families in the state of MA, and as an elderly Protective Service Worker. She also has experience in working with at risk youth and young adults toward rehabilitation and integrating into the community. Her clinical experience and the diversity in the communities she has served is an asset to her role as a service coordinator for PLAN of MA-RI.
Valerie Vernon, LSW, Service Coordinator: Valerie is a Licensed Social Worker who brings many years of experience working in nonprofit and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to help stabilize and support high-risk families. Valerie also brings almost 20 years in auditing and public safety experience for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Valerie volunteers in her community and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Framingham State University.
Molly Zatony, Service Coordinator Assistant. Molly recently graduated from Boston University with a Master’s Degree in social work and is currently working towards her licensure. During her graduate school career, Molly worked at Boston University’s Office of Disability and Access Services and interned at the Immigrants’ Rights and Human Trafficking legal clinic. Prior to graduate school, she worked in clinical neuropsychiatric research exploring genetic causes of psychosis. Molly graduated with a BA in Psychology from Connecticut College.
Kevin Coulter, Accountant: Kevin compiles financial statements for trust beneficiaries and works with investment statements and trust documents here at PLAN. He also prepares trustee certificates and final distribution schedules. Prior to his role as an accountant, he held a marketing internship with PLAN, assisting with PLAN’s website content and various marketing initiatives. Kevin has a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management from Xavier University, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University.
Margaret Galvin, Accounting Assistant: Margaret provides administrative support in trust operations and finance.
Jaquan Harris, Staff Accountant. Jaquan has a wide range of experience from accounting to customer service. He is well versed in the intricacies of accounting in the nonprofit world through his previous position as an Accounting Associate and Program Specialist. Jaquan received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Framingham State University. There he also received the Gold Helmet Award for his commitment, talent, and passion for football coupled with his dedication to schoolwork, family, and desire to make his mark.
Lorraine Mackun, Administrative Assistant: Lorraine provides administrative support in trust operations, finance, and service coordination—and is often the first person to greet visitors and callers.
Maria McElroy, Digital Marketing & Community Relations Associate: Maria has extensive experience with various marketing and public relations activities, including social media marketing, event promotion, advertising, and creative writing. In her previous position she achieved media coverage from the Providence Journal for her company’s newest event. Maria received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and a Minor in Marketing from Roger Williams University, completing two marketing internships during her time there.
Cally Moules, Operations Assistant: Cally rejoins PLAN after about four years working with a MA-based technology provider for the long-term care industry. Cally began as an intern at PLAN helping with spending plans and disbursement requests. She soon worked her way up to the role of administrative assistant and has particular skills in the customer relationship management software, Salesforce. In Cally’s current role, she assists PLAN in ensuring accurate beneficiary data as well as supporting the team in daily operations. Cally holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Ithaca College, and excelled in track and field in high school and college.
Cassidy Tatun, Executive Assistant: Cassidy has extensive experience developing education and outreach programs, conducting project research, providing organizational assistance and creating digital content for webpages and newsletters. Cassidy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Brandeis University, with a minor in Social Justice and Social Policy.
